Kimpton Blythswood Square retains five-star AA status with improved audit score

Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel & Spa in Glasgow has retained its AA five-star rating following a recent inspection, with an increased quality score of 93% – its highest to date.

The city centre hotel, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts, includes 113 bedrooms and a recently refurbished penthouse suite. The audit also confirmed that its in-house restaurant, iasg, has retained its AA Rosette.

The property’s spa facilities, which were fully refurbished in 2023 in a seven-figure upgrade, were among the features highlighted by inspectors. New additions include a snow shower, Himalayan salt room and seaweed bathing. The refurbishment remains IHG’s largest spa investment in the UK to date.

The hotel has also completed a full replacement of its air conditioning system as part of wider operational investment across the property.

Marcello Ventisei, General Manager at Kimpton Blythswood Square, said, “Our entire team works extremely hard to not only maintain our AA-accreditation worthy standards, but to elevate excellence and deliver a truly special and welcoming experience that our guests will always remember and dream about coming back for. We are delighted by the results of our inspection.”

He added, “The AA Rosette for iasg, the recognition and fantastic feedback is testament to our great team who ensure that each aspect of our guests’ experience is outstanding. We continually invest in the hotel to ensure it retains its character while offering modern spaces for guests to enjoy.”

Executive Chef Sean Currie said the award reflects the continued evolution of the iasg restaurant. “I am passionate about being creative with our menus, championing Scottish produce and local sustainable seafood and have been increasing the breadth of our dishes to suit a variety of palates,” he said.

iasg sources ingredients from producers including Cumbrae Oysters and offers afternoon tea both in the restaurant and in the spa lounge.

Inspectors noted the standard of the public areas, bedrooms and marble en-suites, as well as the spa, and highlighted access to the adjacent Blythswood Square Gardens as an additional feature for guests.

The results round off a busy year for the hotel, which has launched new wellness and brand partnerships including its ‘Stay Well’ programme and ‘Borrow a Bag’ collaboration with Scottish accessories brand Strathberry.
