Major £480m hotel and leisure development proposed for Angus

A major hotel and leisure development has been proposed for Shank of Omachie near Wellbank in Angus.

The proposed Brae of Angus scheme includes a five-star hotel and is being described as a £480 million investment. The 310-acre development would also retain the existing 18-hole championship golf course.

Plans also include a golf academy, country club, spa, gym, padel courts, swimming pools, event space and 185 homes. Hyatt is expected to operate the hotel, while IMG is involved in the golf, events and leisure side, subject to council approval.

The site, north of Dundee, was recently bought by Angus Land Company Ltd, which is working on the project with Cape Town-based developer Castle Properties.

A spokesperson for ALC said the scheme would “bring together major global brand operators with a commitment to deliver a truly unique and sustainable resort”

Public consultation events are due to be held in Wellbank on 27 April and 3 June before a full planning application is submitted to Angus Council.
