Prestonfield House has joined the Relais & Châteaux collection, becoming the first hotel in Edinburgh to be awarded membership of the global network.
The five-star property, owned by James Thomson, is the only Scottish addition this year and joins a group of independent hotels and restaurants recognised for their heritage, service standards and individuality.
Built in the late 17th century by the architect behind the nearby Palace of Holyrood House, Prestonfield sits within a 20-acre estate at the foot of Arthur’s Seat. It has passed through the hands of only three families in more than 300 years and has been under Thomson’s ownership for the last two decades.
The hotel’s original features have also been retained including Cordoba leather wall panels, Mortlake tapestries, antique velvets, and furniture commissioned for the property over three centuries.
Rhubarb, the hotel’s restaurant, is headed up by chef John McMahon and serves a farm-to-table menu using seasonal Scottish produce.
