Outlander star Sam Heughan returned to his roots to launch his new gin at Scotland’s newest spa while he took a break from filming Outlander’s eighth and final series in the area.
The 44-year-old, who plays Jamie Fraser in the global hit and who was born and brought up in Dumfries and Galloway, stayed at The Cairndale Hotel and Spa in Dumfries to unveil his Sassenach gin – created in conjunction with Craig Rankin at the Crafty Distillery in nearby Newton Stewart.
“We’re delighted to offer guests Sam’s Sassenach gin in the heart of his home area,” said Cairndale General Manager Matthew Wallace Junior. “Like our new adults only destination spa it’s a symbol of sophistication and style.”
The 86 bedroom Cairndale’s two storey spa is the first of its kind in South West Scotland. Covering 1,300 square metres, its facilities include a thermal pool, Mud Rasul, aroma steam room, Himalayan salt and infrared saunas, herbal lounge, Double Hammam and a private bathing suite.
