On receiving the award, James said, “It’s incredibly humbling to be recognised by your peers, especially in an industry as rich in talent as hospitality and tourism. I’m shocked and truly humbled. Our success is built on people, and we’re lucky to work with amazing suppliers and colleagues. Events like this remind us how important those relationships are, and I’m looking forward to the future with excitement.”

James Thomson OBE DL is one of Scotland’s most celebrated hoteliers and restaurateurs, boasting a portfolio that includes Prestonfield House, an AA five red star luxury hotel, and The Witchery, an Edinburgh institution known for its rich heritage and exceptional dining.

James’s passion for preserving Scotland’s historical architecture is evident in his work restoring several A-listed buildings, including his award-winning Secret Garden design at The Witchery, which earned him the Sunday Times RAIS Regeneration Award for its sensitive and imaginative use of a historic site. In 2005, James was also honoured with an OBE from Queen Elizabeth II for his exceptional services to Scottish hospitality and tourism.
