Apprenticeship in Hospitality Scotland (AHS) and Hospitality Apprenticeship North East (HANE), a leading route for young adults into the hospitality industry, is partnering with City of Glasgow College to deliver two year apprenticeships and two programmes: Hospitality Services and Professional Cookery in the tenth year of the programme.
AHS and HANE will provide a combination of on-the-job training and formal education, leading to a nationally recognised SVQ Level qualification and a rewarding career.
The AHS/HANE programme has been a success story for the hospitality industry, with graduates securing permanent positions in some of Scotland’s best hotels. Some of the partner hotels include The Torridon in Wester Ross, The Royal Yacht Britannia in Edinburgh, The Fife Arms in Braemar, Douneside Hotel by Tarland, Kimpton Blythswood Square in Glasgow, The Old Course Hotel St Andrews and Trump Turnberry in Ayrshire.

Stephen Gow, chairman of AHS and HANE, and general manager at The Chester Hotel in Aberdeen says, “City of Glasgow College, one of the largest and most respected colleges in the UK is an excellent choice to deliver our 2024 programme. This collaboration will ensure that our apprentices receive the highest quality of education and training, as well as access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources. We believe that this partnership will enhance the reputation and attractiveness of the AHS/HANE programme and the hospitality industry as a whole.”
“The hospitality industry continues to invest in the future of our sector and attract more young people to join this exciting and dynamic sector. The AHS/HANE hospitality and professional cookery programmes are a unique opportunity for ambitious and passionate individuals who want to pursue a career in hospitality and learn from some of the best in the business. Apprentices can earn as they learn and our partners commit to paying the minimum wage for an apprentice’s age rather than the apprenticeship rate.”
Carla Gethin, Director of Business Partnerships at City of Glasgow College says, “We are thrilled to embark on this journey with AHS and HANE, paving the way for a mutually beneficial partnership. As a globally recognised leader in technological and professional education, we are committed to equipping apprentices with the skills and knowledge essential for thriving in today’s dynamic hospitality landscape. City of Glasgow College stands at the forefront of culinary and hospitality education and is also renowned for its excellence in maritime, healthcare, supply chain, logistics, and creative industries.”
