Northern Irish investment firm Wirefox has purchased the Ducks Inn in East Lothian, adding it to its Marram hotel series, furthering its expansion in the UK and Ireland’s leisure market.
Aberlady’s The Ducks Inn was bought in September for an unspecified amount. Following the acquisition, Wirefox has temporarily closed the hotel for extensive refurbishments. The hotel’s renovation is projected to expected to conclude by summer 2024, with its subsequent relaunch under a different name.
In 2022, Wirefox made several significant purchases including The Bushmills Inn in Northern Ireland and the St Andrews golf hotel, The Ardgowan.
Kathryn Robinson, Wirefox’s investment director, highlighted the hotel’s appeal to golfers due to its proximity to 21 golf courses, some of which have been venues for The Open qualifiers and championships.
Ruaridh Macdonald, hospitality director at Wirefox said, “We are very much looking forward to welcoming both new and returning customers to the rejuvenated hotel, bar and restaurant when we relaunch next year.
“As with Bushmills and Ardgowan, our approach will be to deliver an authentic experience that is as unique as the landscape that surrounds it.
“East Lothian is famed not only for its world class golf courses but also its coastline, wildlife and local attractions.
“To match this with world class hospitality will attract domestic and international travellers alike – whether they love golf or just want to enjoy everything East Lothian has to offer.”
