Wayne Hutchison, one of the very first team members to join the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in Edinburgh, is celebrating 40 years of service – coinciding with the hotel’s own 40th anniversary.
Recognised by many as the kilted doorman who greets guests with trademark warmth, Wayne has been a familiar figure at the five-star property on Lothian Road since it opened its doors in 1985.
Inspired by his father, who also worked at the hotel in its early days, Wayne became part of the original team that helped establish the Sheraton Grand’s reputation for award-winning service. Four decades later, he remains a valued and much-loved member of staff, known for his professionalism, dedication and personal approach to hospitality.
Reflecting on his four decades at the hotel, Wayne said, “When I started back in 1985, I never imagined I’d still be here 40 years later. The hotel has changed and grown over the years, but the sense of pride in what we do has stayed the same. I’ve worked with so many amazing people, and I’m proud to have played a small part in its story.”
To mark the occasion, the hotel held a special presentation where colleagues gathered to celebrate Wayne’s contribution to the Sheraton Grand legacy.

The celebration comes as the Sheraton Grand marks its own 40th year and comes as the hotel’s One Spa, has been shortlisted in the Good Spa Guide Awards 2025, with public voting open ahead of the awards ceremony later this year.
