Craigmhor Lodge and Courtyard in Pitlochry has been recognised as the top-rated bed and breakfast in Scotland, earning a place among the top 1% of global properties on Tripadvisor.
The 15-bedroom Victorian property was ranked highest in the country in the travel platform’s Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards, which evaluate more than 8 million listings worldwide. The awards are based on consistently high reviews over a 12-month period.
Owned by Calum and Jane MacLellan for the past 28 years, Craigmhor Lodge and Courtyard features three bedrooms in the main house and a further 12 in the Courtyard. Some of these rooms include private balconies or terraces, all set within landscaped grounds in Highland Perthshire.
Calum MacLellan said, “The award is great for the team. The Best of the Best represents the top 1% in the world, so it is rare. It means a lot because it is based on reviews over 12 months. It is not just a case of having a few good months or coming off the back of a refurbishment, it is about delivering year-round and keeping standards.”
The business attracts guests from across the UK and abroad, including regular bookings from Canada during the Edinburgh Festival period, despite the capital being a four-hour round trip by train.
Jane MacLellan added, “We are really pleased. It shows the staff that everything they are striving to achieve is paying off.”
Online reviews over the past month have highlighted key aspects of the guest experience including sleep quality, decor, landscaped grounds, cleanliness, attentiveness of staff, proximity to local attractions and the quality of food on offer.
Breakfast remains a core part of the offering. Guests are provided with a food provenance map showing where ingredients are sourced locally. Dishes include raspberry and cocoa overnight oats, with coffee ground fresh to order.
Jane said, “Breakfast is our only food statement, so we put a lot of energy into it. We make sure the menu is reflective of changing tastes and we have colleagues in the industry who come to stay with us. They have told us that they find breakfast a bit of a highlight, so that is good.”
Craigmhor has previously received accolades including Best Guesthouse in Scotland in 2019 and the AA Best Scottish Guest House Breakfast Award the same year.
