Glasgow Marriott awarded two environmental certifications

The Glasgow Marriott has been awarded two significant environmental certifications: the Green Key and The PLEDGE™ on Food Waste.

The Green Key eco-label is an internationally recognised standard given to hotels that meet high standards in areas like energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, and sustainable sourcing while The PLEDGE™ on Food Waste certification highlights the hotel’s active measures to cut down on food waste. As part of this, the hotel has implemented Winnow AI technology to track real-time food waste data which helps it optimise ordering, menu planning, and portion sizes while maintaining a high-quality guest experience.

Beyond these certifications, the Glasgow Marriott has launched several initiatives to further its commitment to environmental responsibility. The hotel now observes “Meat-Free Mondays” in its staff canteen, encouraging plant-based meals to reduce the environmental impact of meat consumption. Additionally, the hotel has eliminated all plastic bottles, straws, and stirrers, as well as single-use plastics from refurbished guest rooms. Used coffee grounds from the hotel are also repurposed as fertiliser, reducing waste and supporting sustainable practices.

Chris McGuinness, General Manager of Glasgow Marriott said, “We are incredibly proud to receive these certifications. They reflect our team’s dedication to not only delivering service excellence but also ensuring that we play our part in protecting the environment.

“The Green Key and The PLEDGE™ initiatives align with our group’s commitment to sustainability, and we look forward to continuing this journey by providing a responsible and eco-conscious stay for our guests.”
