Islay House Hotel joins 7 Hospitality portfolio following change of ownership

7 Hospitality Management (7H) has added Islay House Hotel to its growing portfolio of managed hotels and resorts. The move follows a recent change in ownership and marks the beginning of a new chapter for the hotel.

Set within 28 acres of private gardens overlooking Loch Indaal, Islay House Hotel is a Grade A listed Georgian mansion which dates back to 1677. The 13-room country house hotel was sold in October 2024 to a consortium led by Steven Haag to the California-based Payne-Clark family for an undisclosed sum. The family are descendants of John Frost who was the head gamekeeper at the house in the late 1800’s.

Renovations are already underway, with 7H leading on operations, sales, marketing, revenue strategy and guest experience innovation with a focus on strengthening the hotel’s position as a leading luxury destination in the Inner Hebrides.

“We are honoured to welcome Islay House Hotel into the 7H family,” said Conner Hutchison, Head of Brand and Communications at 7 Hospitality Management. “This is more than a partnership — it’s a shared commitment to excellence, sustainability, and uniquely local experiences.”

“This is a landmark moment for Islay House,” added Martin MacPhail, Managing Director at 7H. “We look forward to reintroducing this historic gem to the global market, offering guests a timeless yet refreshed Scottish experience.”

The addition of Islay House is part of 7H’s continued expansion across the UK where the group currently manages a range of independent properties including The Grosvenor Hotel in Glasgow, The Bonham Hotel in Edinburgh, Knockderry Country House Hotel in Argyll & Bute, The Portree Hotel on the Isle of Skye and The Kingston Lodge Hptel, London.
