Ardbeg sets out plans for Islay Hotel

Ardbeg has announced its plans for the Islay Hotel in Port Ellen, which it bought in 2022.

The multi-million-pound investment of the hotel, near the brand’s Distillery on Islay, will mean that the hotel will close at the end of summer this year, re-opening in May 2025 under a new name-  Ardbeg House.

The renovation is being led by Russell Sage Studio who were also involved in the transformation of the distillery’s visitor centre, and it will include the re-introduction of it’s bar, The Islay Bar, which closed a few years ago. As well as the bar the plans include refurbishing the restaurant on the ground floor adding a private dining area, along with revamped rooms as well as creating space on the lower ground floor for games and a ‘whisky cave’.

The distillery also plans to create an Ardbeg whisky that will only available at the hotel and visitor centre.

Chief executive Caspar MacRae said, “We are dedicated to making our island a great place to live and visit, so we are tremendously excited about our plans to create a world-class whisky and hospitality experience for Islay residents, visitors to the island and committee members.

“While the hotel will, of course, be a spiritual home for the most ardent Ardbeggians, we promise even those just getting to know the world’s smokiest, peatiest Islay malt, will leave lifelong fans.”
