Prime Glasgow city-centre site marketed for hotel or hostel development

A high-profile development site at the junction of Argyle Street and Jamaica Street in Glasgow city centre has been brought to market with potential for a major new hotel or hostel scheme.

The site, positioned directly opposite Glasgow Central Station, is being marketed by CDLH on behalf of Clydebuilt LP, managed by Ediston. The location is being pitched as one of the city’s most prominent addresses, with high pedestrian footfall and strong connectivity to key transport hubs, including Queen Street Station and Buchanan Street.

Existing proposals for the site include a 139-room, 537-bed hostel, with scope to adapt or extend the layout to support a 155- to 170-room hotel, depending on operator requirements. The surrounding area includes a concentration of retail, leisure and food and beverage operators, as well as links to Glasgow’s International Financial Services District.

CDLH confirmed the property forms part of an existing hospitality development framework and is expected to attract interest from national and international hotel operators seeking representation in one of Scotland’s highest-performing city markets.

CDLH  said that a pre-application consultation with Glasgow City Council confirmed they have no objections in principle to a change of use to a hotel. A full planning application will be submitted immediately upon agreement of terms and layout with an operator.
