Old Course Hotel reopens Spa following five-month upgrade

The Old Course Hotel in St Andrews has reopened its Kohler Waters Spa following a five-month closure for a full-scale refurbishment that introduces new thermal facilities, including the UK’s first KLAFS-designed snow and sauna cabin.

The updated offering includes a contrast therapy circuit, expanded hydrotherapy suite, and the UK’s first Espuro Foam Steam Room. The layout and guest flow have also been reworked to accommodate increased dwell time in thermal and relaxation zones.

General Manager Phyllis Wilkie said, “The concept of ‘Coorie’ is central to the redevelopment – guests move through a cycle of heat and cold, then into spaces designed for comfort and recovery.”

The spa upgrade forms part of a wider strategy to grow the Old Course Hotel’s appeal as a year-round destination for both domestic and international guests, with a focus on recovery-based experiences.

The hotel has also launched a new commercial partnership with Anna Deacon, best known for her work promoting cold-water swimming. A seasonal programme of wellness retreats will run throughout 2026, beginning with ‘Step into Summer’ in May, which includes use of the spa facilities, guided swimming and wellbeing workshops.

Wilkie said the upgrade was designed to meet growing demand for more specialised spa facilities that go beyond standard thermal offerings, adding, “We are seeing increasing interest in recovery-led treatments and contrast therapy. The investment allows us to offer a distinct experience in the Scottish spa market.”
